The Wines of Northern Spain

An amazing blend
of old traditions and new techniques

Traveling to Spain on a wine and food tour planned by me will be an immersion into the culture and food of Spain. In the wine industry there is an amazing blend of old traditions and new techniques. From the beautiful city of Barcelona you can visit the regions of Penedes (must visit Montserrat while there), and Priorat. While in Barcelona you MUST spend an evening experiencing a Tapas Crawl along with viewing the awe inspiring works of Gaudi.

As you travel west, you will be able to learn and taste a variety of Spanish wines and of course Cava, the sparkling darling. Many Cava producers still craft this wine by hand-riddling and hand-degorging each bottle.

There are many caves used for wine production and storage, there is even a winery who stores their wine on the floor of the ocean!

Toro and Ribera del Duero

A visit to the wine regions of Toro and Ribera del Duero will be delightful. A night or two in San Sebastian would be wonderful and the number of Michelin star restaurants will truly amaze you.

Spain is most definitely a food and wine journey that will satisfy foodies and wine oenophiles. Penedes and Priorat can easily be reached from Barcelona. You will be able to sample some amazing Cava while exploring the use of caves for wine production and storage.

Navarra and Rioja

Other wine regions such as Navarra and Rioja will offer a blend of old traditions and very new techniques in the making of wine. The variation of wineries will also be extremely interesting as they range from small garage-wine locations to luxurious wine estates.
